Terms of Use

Black Box is under active development. Features may change, break, or be removed; the service may be interrupted; and data formats or scoring logic may be revised as we learn from real use. We’ll never silently delete your account or collection data without telling you, but we can’t promise the beta will be uninterrupted or bug-free.

Match Score, Bottle Check verdicts, and personalized recommendations are algorithmic estimates based on your Scent Profile and the catalog data available to us. They are opinions, not promises — they can be wrong, incomplete, or based on catalog data (notes, accords) that turns out to be inaccurate. Any purchase decision you make is your own; we’re not responsible for a fragrance you buy (or don’t) based on what Black Box shows you.

Creator ratings and commentary are the personal, individually-attributed opinions of the specific creator shown next to them — never an average, never Black Box’s own institutional opinion, and never fabricated on a creator’s behalf.

Fragrance names, notes, and other catalog details are supplied by our data provider, Fragplace (“Fragrance API”), and may contain errors or omissions outside our control. We normalize and display this data in good faith but don’t guarantee its accuracy or completeness. We’ve worked with more than one catalog data provider as the product has evolved and may do so again — Fragplace is the one actively supplying data today.

• You must be at least 13 years old to create an account.
• You’re responsible for keeping access to your sign-in email secure.
• Don’t attempt to bypass rate limits, scrape the catalog in bulk, impersonate another person, submit false missing-fragrance reports, or otherwise abuse the service. We may suspend or delete an account for conduct like this.
• Missing-fragrance reports and any other content you submit should be accurate and your own — don’t submit something on someone else’s behalf without their knowledge.

Black Box is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, to the fullest extent the law allows. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Black Box and its founders aren’t liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service, including any purchase decision made using Match Score, Bottle Check, or recommendations.

You can delete your account at any time from Profile settings. We may suspend or terminate access for conduct that violates these terms, or discontinue the beta entirely with reasonable notice to registered users where practical.

We may update these terms as the beta evolves. We’ll update the date at the top of this page when we do, and try to notify signed-in users of material changes directly.

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Indiana, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute arising from these terms will be handled in the state or federal courts located in Indiana.
